Dallas Chiropractic Neurologist Comments:
Last time we talked briefly about how bad television is for the child's developing brain. Just as a quick review...
The right hemisphere gives you the ability to concentrate, focus, pay attention, NOT be impulsive, NOT be hyperactive.
The right hemisphere is weak in 90% of ADHD kids.
TV is a strong left-hemisphere stimulation. (So strong that it's addictive).
Too much left hemisphere stimulation makes the imbalance worse.
So what do you do? You may have to break
your own TV habit. What universal law is there that says YOU MUST WATCH THE NEWS, AMERICAN IDOL, PRIMETIME etc. Spend face time with your kids. Their little brains need to learn
how to socialize with human beings, not machines.
The second in our line-up of ADHD criminals is the appalling lack of physical exercise in American children.
The brain lives off of the neural signals that are generated by the movement of joints and muscles, especially the spine...they're literally like a power generator for the brain. Gross motor (large muscles) activity is controlled largely by the right hemisphere. Fine motor (small muscles like the thumbs and fingers) are controlled by the left hemisphere.
So here's what happens to this child's brain..
